Workflow: Research to Spec

Use when

  • Product semantics are unclear.
  • External systems must be compared before design.
  • Implementation would require inventing concepts in code.

Steps

  1. Read project handoff and README.
  2. Identify source systems and URLs.
  3. Extract or summarize authoritative docs.
  4. Create comparison matrix.
  5. Create adopt/reject/defer decisions.
  6. Draft glossary terms.
  7. Convert stable decisions into product/spec docs.
  8. Record assumptions and open questions.

Outputs

  • docs/research/inspiration-systems.md
  • docs/research/comparison-matrix.md
  • docs/research/adopt-reject-defer.md
  • docs/glossary.md
  • Product or architecture docs as needed.

Exit criteria

A later implementer can distinguish copied ideas, rejected ideas, deferred ideas, and unresolved assumptions.
